Valentine's Day - Leslie Kane

Oh Sheldon… When will you learn to embrace the love?!

Valentine’s Day has always been, and probably always will be, my favorite holiday. Another Valentine’s Day has come and gone and I think now is a good time to reflect on the day. This is a day most people associate with roses, chocolate, couples, dates, love songs, and single awareness. If one doesn’t have a significant other to call their valentine, the day often gets filled with negativity. But what should Valentine’s Day be about? Quite simply, love, but not the kind that most people think.
Here’s my Valentine’s Week To-Do List:
  1. Make Valentine’s and give them to as many people as possible!
  2.  Don’t miss an opportunity to tell/show someone that I love and appreciate them
  3.  Buy that special Valentine’s drink from Starbucks for myself
  4.  Spread joy and love everywhere you go
  5. Call my Mom, Dad, Brother and Grandma
  6. Take a moment every day to stop, look around and say a prayer
  7.  Don’t let anyone dampen your style

Ultimately, I want this week to be filled with LOVE. Love for myself, my family, my friends, strangers and for God. It’s not too late to make a list of your own that can help you on your love mission. So much of our life is filled with negativity. If everyone looked at Valentine’s Day as a time to focus on loving one another, our world would be a kinder and happier place. While loving ourselves and others should be a priority year-round, sometimes we stray and forget to do so intentionally. An easy way to get centered weekly and remind yourself of God’s love for you is by getting involved at Crossroads.

We can spread the love together. Valentine’s Day, Valentine’s Week, or, for me, Valentine’s Month (AKA February), is a nice reminder, as Christians, to make our lives our message and our message should be love.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-15
“To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Mark 12:33
