Looking Toward the Future - Katie Murphy
Hello everyone, my name is Katie Murphy. In case you missed
my last blog post, I will tell you a little bit about who I am! I'm a Junior at
MSU studying Recreation, Parks, and Leisure services. I'm a student leader at
Crossroads – Connections Coordinator. That means I get to greet everyone coming
to worship, keep everyone up to date on events, make sure everyone feels
welcome, and help spread God's love.
With the school year starting to come closer to the end,
I've been thinking a lot about the future. Especially since I'm also coming to
the end of my career as a student at MSU with only one year left. Whether you
are a Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior, we all spend plenty of time
wondering about and worrying about the future. If you're a Freshmen, you might
be still in the dark about what major you wish to pursue. As a sophomore or
junior, maybe you're looking at summer internships. As a senior, where you're
going to find a job.
For me, I at least have my summer planned out, so I'm a
little less anxious. But even figuring that out was rough. The past four
summers I had worked at the same place, and this summer I chose to work in a
new place for the new work experience. And I have to admit, making that
decision was difficult for me. New things and change can be scary. Starting in
a new place for the first time is difficult. And I had a lot of anxiety about
it. But there's good news! God and Crossroads helped me to face my fears, and
try it anyway.
God tells us that we can put our trust in Him. That we
should not worry about tomorrow. That we can give Him our worries. He tells us
that though we may not be strong, we are strong through Christ. God lets us
know that change is good. That the difficult things in life are worth it.
1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He
cares for you."
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He
will make your paths straight"
Every time
God has asked me to change, though I've had worries, it's always changed my
life for the better. Every time God has asked me to try something new, to go
somewhere I've never gone before, it has changed my life for the better. So
cast your anxieties on the Lord, because He really does care for you. And He
will strengthen you, and prepare you. You just have to trust, and take that
leap of faith.
I hope this
message helps anyone who is feeling uncertain and worried about their future.
And I hope you aren't afraid to move forward in your lives. The world is much,
much bigger than just where you are now. And if you need a community to pray
for you and support you, you are always welcome at Crossroads.
